Aristedes Mendes,
Portuguese Ambassador to France During The War.

Forbidden by his government to issue visas to Jews;
he issued 10,000 visas in Bordeaux before being recalled to Portugal. There he was stripped of his rank and ostracized; in 1954 he died in a pauper's hospital.

He transported them from Bulgaria through Romania (Danube river) to Israel. Most of his life lived at Jaffa , Israel was married to Regina Denkov until he passed away.
